Author Instructions

The Journal of Invasive Cardiology (JIC) will consider for publication suitable articles on topics pertaining to the invasive/interventional treatment of patients with cardiovascular disease.


Editorial Policies and Access. The author is responsible for the contents submitted in the paper. Opinions expressed by authors are their own and not necessarily those of HMP Global, the editorial staff, or any member of the editorial advisory board. No claims made by authors or advertisers are guaranteed by the publisher or the editors.

Upon acceptance to JIC, authors agree to assign and transfer copyright of the work in its entirety to HMP Global. All articles will be freely accessible to the public immediately upon posting to the website. There is no processing fee for authors to publish in JIC. 


Review. JIC uses a single-blind review policy. All articles are reviewed by two or more referees. Acceptance is based upon significance and originality. Editorial revisions may be made to articles accepted for publication as an aid to clarity. By submitting your manuscript to JIC you agree to a plagiarism screen via iThenticate. All submissions will be screened for plagiarism before being reviewed by the peer-review panel.


Ethics. Authors must comply with FDA guidelines, human studies guidelines, and animal welfare regulations of the authors’ institution.

Authors must include a statement in the Methods section confirming that the study has adhered to institutional guidelines and/or the Declaration of Helsinki or other guiding principles. If exemption was granted by the authors' institution, please state this as well. 

Informed Consent. If the study/case involves human subjects, authors must include a statement confirming that all participants have given consent to participate in the study and/or to the described procedure(s), and to the publication thereof. If consent was waived for the study by the ethical body of the authors' institution, please state this as well. 

Photographic Consent. Authors must affirm that all human subjects featured in submitted figures and/or videos have provided written documentation authorizing the publication of their image. Documentation does not need to be submitted with the manuscript, but must be in the authors' possession at the time of submission and presentable upon request. If this is applicable to your submission, please include the following statement: "The authors report that patient consent was provided for publication of the images used herein."


Conflict of Interest/Disclosures. A statement acknowledging financial interest in products/companies relevant to submitted research must be disclosed to the editors when the paper is submitted. Any financial interest which may be interpreted as a conflict of interest, including stock ownership, consultancies, patent-licensing relationships, and other equity interests, must be disclosed on the Title Page. If no conflicts of interest exist, please state this as well.


Manuscript Format. All submissions to the journal are submitted online in a digital format through Editorial Manager, a web-based, peer review system. Standard format is an MS Word document along with embedded figures or figures as separate attachments (see figure section below). Please include a title page listing authors and institutions, along with any potential conflicts of interest. Manuscript should include an abstract, full text of manuscript, references, tables, and legends. Separate pages are not required for different sections of the manuscript. Provide adequate line spacing and page numbers. Please include a word count. Submission URL: http://www.editorialmanager.com/jic/


Article Length. The word limit is 5000 words or less (word count does not include references). There should generally be no more than 50 references. There should generally be no more than 5 tables and/or line drawings. There is no limit to images or videos if they add value to the article.


Publication. Upon acceptance, all articles will be copyedited and published on the JIC website within approximately two weeks (Early View). Authors will subsequently have the opportunity to review proofs and submit any corrections prior to final publication in a monthly issue. The monthly edition, posted to www.invasivecardiology.com, is the official journal edition indexed by PubMed/Medline.

Submission Instructions/Version 1

In order to simplify initial submission, we have adopted a graduated process for submissions. For initial manuscript screening, only a minimum number of steps are required (*). After you have completed the submission form, you may browse/attach or drag text files, digital figures, or a full PDF onto the submission page. Please note that figures must not include identifying patient information in any version.

Submission Instructions/Version 2

At this stage, more author information is required. In addition, you will be expected to conform to journal style in terms of formatting. Please make every effort to complete all fields within the submission form, all mandatory fields are indicated with an asterisk (*).


Corresponding Author/Additional Authors

• The corresponding author will receive all manuscript-related correspondence via Email. 

• NOTE: Authors are those who participated in manuscript preparation: conception, design, research and/or writing. Others who were consulted can be mentioned in the acknowledgments section.


Title Page

• Include the manuscripts title, short title is optional, but helpful.

• Include all author(s) names and institutions.

• Include the corresponding author's full mailing and email address. 

• If desired, include any social media handles for online promotion (X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram).

Disclosure Statement. The title page should contain one of the disclosure statements listed below. Specific details of any conflicts of interest or financial relationships will be required at a later date according to ICMJE standards and detailed within the final published document:

   (1) The authors report no financial relationships or conflicts of interest regarding the content herein.

   (2) One or more of the authors have disclosed potential conflicts of interest regarding the content herein.      

   (3) One or more of the authors has disclosed a potential conflict of interest that is not financial in nature.

• Abstracts can be included on the title page or the next page.


Text 

• Use generic drug names (even if trade names are mentioned).

• When products are mentioned, list the manufacturer the first time the product is mentioned (no city or country need be listed)

• Obtain appropriate consent for quotations of more than 50 words. Consult the AMA Manual of Style, 11th Edition for current usage.


Case reports. JIC no longer considers case reports for publication.


Abstract. An abstract or summary is necessary for the review process. Depending on the type of article, it may or may not be published. For example, abstracts are not published for editorials, clinical images, or letters. For these types of articles, please provide a brief summary of less than 100 words for the review process. These summaries are sent to manuscript reviewers to help them determine if they have the expertise or interest in reviewing the article in question. For original articles and research studies, please provide a structured abstract (objectives, methods, results, conclusions), less than 250 words. Review articles should include an unstructured abstract of less than 250 words.


Clinical Images. JIC will publish interesting images with text no more than 300 words (including legends). No references are needed. Accompanying video is optional, but encouraged (please provide in .mp4 file format). Please go to http://www.editorialmanager.com/jic/ to upload your submission.


Keywords. Please choose 2-3 words from within the submission template pulldown menu to be used in order to cross reference the subject of your manuscript with the expertise of the review board. Reviewers will be chosen based upon these selections.


References.  References should be listed at the end of the manuscript. Numbered references must be cited, in order in the text. Use AMA reference style. A complete periodical reference includes (1) authorsnames (list all authors up to six, for seven or more authors, list first three followed by et al.; (2) title of article (please note that initial caps are used in the first word in title only); (3) abbreviated journal name; (4) year of publication; (5) volume number; (6) specific page numbers; (7) DOI. For books, also include: name of editor(s), if any; and publisher.

Tables

  • Tables must be provided in editable .docx format for publication.

Figure Legends/Copyright.

  • A descriptive legend must accompany each figure. If a single figure is separated into panels (A, B, etc) please provide a unique legend for each panel.
  • All abbreviations must be identified in the figure legend.

 Example of proper abbreviation format: 

PCI = percutaneous coronary intervention; DM = diabetes mellitus; MR = mitral regurgitation.

  • If a figure has been published previously, permission to reprint the figure must be obtained in writing from the copyright owner and submitted upon acceptance. Please acknowledge the source beneath the figure.

Figures 

For review process:

  • Figures may be color (RGB or CMYK) or black & white.
  • For review segment, figures can be in TIFF, Powerpoint, EPS, PDF,or JPEG.
  • We do accept low resolution (72 dpi) figures for the review process.

For final online publication:

  • Figure must be in JPEG or PNG format. Resolution of at least 300 dpi is preferred; lower- resolution figures may be acceptable at the editor’s discretion.
  • Line art (graphs, charts, text) is best when 800 to 1000 dpi.

Videos

Videos will no longer be accepted through Editorial Manager.

Please submit all video files through this online form. The editorial staff will incorporate any video(s) into the submission prior to review.

The following file formatting and naming convention must be followed. Not adhering to the below will result in a delay of the publication process.

File formatting:

  • mp3, .mp4, or .mov file types
  • 1080p resolution (1920 × 1080 Full HD)
  • 29.97 frame rate
  • h.264 codec

Naming convention: 

  • MM.DD.YY-Publication-Submitter Last Name
    (Example: 3.23.24-JIC-Simson)
