Over 300 Attend MedStar`s Community Open House and Ribbon Cutting for New Headquarters
On Tuesday, February 10, the MedStar Team held a community open house and ribbon cutting ceremony for our brand new headquarters facility.
The event was attended by over 300 community leaders, employees and local media. Area-elected officials, fire and police chiefs, the Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors and MedStar Board members joined MedStar Executive Director Doug Hooten for the ceremonial ribbon (“Triage Area” scene tape) cutting.
“This incredible facility is a demonstration of MedStar’s commitment to our community, the 15-member cities who are part of the MedStar system, and most important to our 450 team members who work tirelessly to bring world class emergency and mobile healthcare services to every patient we serve,” said Hooten in his comments to the participants.
Participating in the ceremony was Bob Terrell, the Fort Worth Assistant City Manager who worked with EMS industry innovators such as Jack Stout in 1985 to create the MedStar Public Utility Model system. Mr. Terrell was presented with a framed copy of the original City Council documents from December 1985 that he developed for approval and a Star Vision Award for his vision of a better EMS system than they had in 1985.
MedStar had occupied the same 28,000 square foot facility on 3 acres since its inception in 1986, when 150 employees operating 20 ambulances responded to 39,000 calls. The new facility is an 85,000 square foot facility on 10 acres and will support MedStar’s 450 employees, with 56 ambulances responding to 115,000 requests for service.
The facility cost $12 million for acquisition and renovation using no tax dollars for the project. The facility includes 5 full-service maintenance bays, extensive training and education space in 5 full service classrooms (including a simulation lab and recording studio), a full gym with locker rooms and dedicated space for an on-site clinic.
