Paralytic Drug Recalled

BayCare Integrated Service Center, which does business as BayCare Central Pharmacy, has initiated a voluntary recall for 253 syringes containing succinylcholine chloride due to a lack of sterility assurance, according to the August 11, 2021, US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Enforcement Report.

The recall affects succinylcholine chloride, 100 mg/5 mL (20 mg/mL), 5-mL syringes for intravenous use only, BayCare Central Pharmacy, Temple Terrace, FL, from lot SUCC10020210624 (Exp. 9/22/21). The syringes were distributed in Florida.

BayCare Integrated Service Center initiated the recall July 30, 2021. On August 4, 2021, the FDA designated the recall Class II. Products affected by Class II recalls may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences if used. While remote, a possibility of serious harm also exists.

Succinylcholine chloride is a prescription medication used to relax muscles during surgery or other medical procedures.
