How I Treat: Ulcerative Colitis Case Presentation

Setting Expectations, Encouraging Hope

The treatment of ulcerative colitis has advanced significantly in recent years thanks tot he rapid pace of clinical research discoveries that have led to important additions to the armamentarium available for treating this disease. But major challenges remain. Despite all these new therapies, a substantial number of patients don't respond to initial therapies or even to multiple treatment lines.

In the following video, Dr David Rubin, chief of gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition director of the Digestive Diseases Center at the University of Chicago, discusses how he approaches the management of ulcerative colitis, including setting goals and expectations, working toward deep remission and excellent quality of life, and offering patients hope for the future.
