Hi everyone. I'm Dr. Iana Gueorguieva. I'm one of the IBD specialists at Henry Ford Health and an associate clinical professor at Michigan State University. I'm very fortunate today to be able to present at the AIBD regionals in Detroit on a topic that I'm passionate about —women and pregnancy and IBD.

Some of the risks that are associated with having active inflammation in IBD is preterm birth, low birth weight, miscarriages, stillbirth. It is really important that we educate our patients and provide them information about preconception counseling and making sure that they're in remission even before starting pregnancy.

There's been a lot of data lately that has been published, which is amazing in the world of pregnancy and IBD, to help us manage our patients, and that biologics are safe during pregnancy and lactations. Of course, there's certain exceptions, and that is because there's just lack of human data, but it's really important that patients talk to their doctors and get educated so some of the fears and misconceptions that are out there get cleared up.

Atthe end of the day, we're all with the same goal. That is to help our patients achieve a healthy pregnancy for mom and for baby, and ensure that they're healthy.
