A new school partnership between Sutter Health and Sacramento Ultrasound Institute has been created to empower and upskill Cath Lab team members—launched recently at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto, California.

Five Sutter Health employees have enrolled in a program designed to facilitate affordable, high-caliber educational advancement and formal certification as Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialists (RCIS). This initiative represents a significant evolution in workforce development, establishing rigorous standards for clinical training and setting a precedent for future educational endeavors within the health system.
This initiative marks Sutter Health’s first academic partnership of its kind—and will serve as a model for future clinical training programs across our system.
“Our nurses and clinicians are deeply committed to delivering excellent care, and programs like this give them the opportunity to grow their expertise while continuing to serve patients," says Katrina Holmes, Chief Nursing Officer. "It’s rewarding to see our own team members step into advanced training that strengthens both their careers and our community.”
“This collaboration allows us to invest in our people in a meaningful way,” says Deborah Yount, Senior Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer. “By offering a low-cost, on-the-job training opportunity, we’re removing barriers and creating space for internal career mobility within our Cath Lab teams.”
“Programs like this strengthen our pipeline of skilled clinicians, expand opportunities for internal career mobility, and help us continue to deliver exceptional care to the communities we serve,” says Carole Bennett, Vice President, Talent Management & Development.
Together, these perspectives reflect how Sutter Health is advancing workforce development at every level—supporting staff, patients, and the communities we serve.
