SAN ANTONIO, Texas --

A 35-year-old man died after being impaled by flying debris from a car accident Saturday afternoon.

According to San Antonio Police Officer Matthew Porter, a car crossing New Braunfels Avenue westbound on Canton Street slammed into the side of a car going south on New Braunfels, pushing that car off the roadway and toward a business.

The car crashed through some metal railing, some of which went airborne, striking both the 35-year-old Jesus Salazar and an 8-year-old boy who was with him.

Salazar was rushed to Brooke Army Medical Center for treatment, but later died from his injuries.

The 8-year-old was not seriously hurt, said Porter.
