Kentucky Woman Killed in Crash with Ambulance
LOUISVILLE, Ky. --
Elizabethtown police say one person was killed in an accident involving an ambulance late Saturday night.
Officers responded to a traffic collision at 10:55 pm at the intersections of U.S. 31W and Pine Valley Drive.
An ambulance headed southbound on 31W en route to Hardin Memorial Hospital with a patient, was struck by a Pontiac Grand Prix driven by 28-year-old Anthony Benningfield, of Elizabethtown.
Investigators said the ambulance had the green light when Benningfield drove into the intersection, causing the front of the ambulance to strike the Pontiac's passenger side.
Pontiac passenger Katrina Polston, 27, of Vine Grove, KY. was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another passenger, 25-year-old Brandi L. Benningfield, of Elizabethtown, was taken to Hardin Memorial and later air-lifted to University Hospital.
Anthony Benningfield was treated and released from Hardin Memorial Hospital.
The patient and driver of the ambulance, 29-year-old Jason Thompson, of Louisville, were taken to Hardin Memorial Hospital.
Paramedic Carl Akin III, 39, of Louisville, was air-lifted to University Hospital.
Anthony Benningfield is being held at the Hardin County Detention Center on charges of reckless homicide, four counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, and aggravated DUI.
