Texas Firefighter Fired for Posting Photos of Fatal Crash

Katie Hall

Aug. 06--A firefighter with the North Hays County fire department was fired Thursday after posting "inappropriate" photos of a fatal car crash the day before, department officials said.

The firefighter violated the fire district's policy by posting the pictures on social media, department officials said.

The crash happened early Wednesday, killing one and injuring several others. Officials found out about the firefighter's posts soon after, and the firefighter was terminated early Thursday.

North Hays County fire Chief Ken Campbell declined to name the fired firefighter, where the crash in question took place, or what the content of the problematic photos was.

Officials said in a statement they were "embarrassed and disappointed" by the firefighter's actions.

"The district expresses its most sincere and deepest sympathy and condolences to the relatives and friends whose family members were affected by the accident and this incident," the fire department wrote in the statement. "The district also wants to convey its sincerest apologies for the intentional and wrongful actions of this terminated individual and reiterate this type of behavior is not and will not be tolerated or condoned by the district."
