LaGrange, GA—Recently, first responders from American Medical Response (AMR), Troup County E-9-1-1, and representatives from Wellstar West Georgia Hospital came together to reunite with a LaGrange police officer whose life they saved earlier in the year. All of the teams involved sprung into action after the woman started feeling chest pains and began suffering cardiac arrest.

Once Officer Jackie Mealer began feeling chest pains while working out at the gym during her break, she called 9-1-1. A Troup County E-9-1-1 dispatcher gave her instructions, while an AMR crew operating in Troup County rushed to the scene. Immediately upon arrival, the AMR crew placed Officer Mealer on a cardiac monitor in their ambulance, where they noticed she had blockages. They contacted Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center, which prepared the cardiac catheterization lab for Officer Mealer as AMR transported her to the hospital. She made a full recovery.

“Stories like these are exactly what first responders strive to do every single day,” said Jason Lawson, Operations Manager, AMR Troup County. “Everyone involved in this save utilized their training to the fullest and made sure that Officer Mealer received the care that we are all proud to bring to Troup County. It also proves the value in recognizing cardiac arrest symptoms and the importance of contacting emergency services.”

This reunion was the first time the patient was reunited with members of the ambulance crew, dispatchers and hospital staff that were involved in saving her life. Officer Mealer was extremely grateful to all involved in the saving of her life, giving thanks to the AMR crew, Troup County E-9-1-1 for relaying the call, and the Wellstar Hospital staff for continuing treatment.
