Usona Institute Breaks Ground on Wisconsin Campus
Usona Institute, a not-for-profit medical research organization that conducts and supports pre-clinical and clinical research around the therapeutic effects of psilocybin and other psychedelic medicines, has broken ground on a new psychedelic science and education campus in Fitchburg, Wisconsin.
The $60 million, 93,000-square-foot campus will serve as the new home for Usona’s existing team of 30 employees and include space for therapy, training and education. Scheduled to open in 2024, the campus will bridge training and education for academic and clinical studies, along with best practices for developing models for future therapies.
Usona will continue to conduct medicinal chemistry and manufacturing at its labs in California and Wisconsin, with further support from contract manufacturers. Usona also operates Usona Institute Europa, a satellite office in Germany.
Usona launched a Phase 2 clinical trial in 2019—the first randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study of single-dose psilocybin to treat patients with major depressive disorder, and the company plans an early-phase, first-in-human study for a second novel compound in 2022.
