First Med Relieves Employees Without Notice

EMSWorld.com News

The parent company of LIFE Ambulance, First Med, relieved employees of their duties on Friday at multiple locations without any notice and shut down immediately, employees and news reports indicate.

While several news outlets were confirming shut downs in Ohio, EMS World could not immediately confirm whether shut downs were occurring in the other states where First Med operates.

Employees who contacted the Fayette Advocate in Ohio said they were told the company “was out of money.”

Other employees confirmed to WSAZ in Portsmouth, Ohio that they were called in, issued pink slips and told the entire operation was shutting down, effective immediately.

Medcorp EMS, also under First Med, was also reported to have ended its services in the Toledo, Ohio area. An employee told WTOL 11 that the company broke the news to employees Friday night with no prior notice, and as of this weekend, its website was down.

According to the cached version of the website: "First Med EMS is a world class organization that operates from 70 offices, in 6 states, with over 650 vehicles. First Med EMS is headquartered in Wilmington, NC and has been in business since 1988. First Med EMS completed four (4) acquisitions in 2011, including the purchases of American Ambulette and Ambulance, Inc, Life Ambulance, MedCorp, and TransMed. First Med EMS continues to plan for future growth across the country. First Med EMS is dedicated to using state of the art technology and medical equipment providing over 500,000 patient transports last year."
