Parent Heart Watch Announces Timely Release of Video on SCA in Youth; Recent Headlines Support Need for Information
03/29/2011
Parent Heart Watch (PHW), the national voice solely dedicated to protecting youth from Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) and preventable Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD), released an informational video today. The video focuses on the importance of cardiac screenings for early detection and being prepared to respond to SCA by having automated external defibrillators (AEDs) wherever youth congregate and CPR/AED trained individuals that can promptly implement the cardiac chain of survival. In addition to insight from the medical community, the video features personal stories from parents who have lost a child to SCA, those who have a child that has survived SCA and/or are living with a heart condition.
Recent SCA deaths in youth have demonstrated that it is not rare and is often preventable. "There is a lack of education and understanding of SCA in youth," said PHW Executive Director Michele Snyder. "Hopefully this video will motivate the public to learn more about SCA in youth by visiting our website at www.parentheartwatch.org, and ultimately take action in their own communities to help save lives."
Dr. Jonathan Drezner, Associate Professor, Department of Family Medicine at the University of Washington, and Parent Heart Watch Medical Advisory Board member, recognizes the value that personal stories play in the education of the public. "This video will touch the heart of anyone who watches it. It is educational, accurate, and inspirational. Parent Heart Watch has become the national voice for prevention of sudden cardiac arrest in the young. They are true heroes in their effort to save young lives."
