CorSystem Announces First Use of Bipolar Ablation Adapter for the Treatment of Refractory Septal Ventricular Tachycardia
CorSystem announces the first use of their Bipolar Ablation Adapter since the device received CE mark in July 2020. The patient who underwent treatment was suffering from a VT storm, a life-threatening cardiac condition that required frequent interventions from an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD). The patient previously underwent multiple unsuccessful ablation attempts using classic-unipolar approach. Bipolar ablation was performed without complications and was ultimately successful.
The Bipolar Ablation Adapter was invented by Piotr Futyma, MD. Before receiving CE mark, the device was used by its inventor for the treatment of refractory intramural arrhythmias including the left ventricular summit and posteroseptal scar-related VTs. “In the last two years, I was contacted multiple times on the possibilities of delivering such a tool for treatment,” stated Dr. Futyma. “While physicians were enthusiastic about the bipolar approach, the dedicated and CE-marked connection was lacking.”
“We are very happy to have amended our armamentarium for challenging substrates,” said Professor Boris Schmidt, MD, Chief of Electrophysiology, Cardioangiologisches Centrum Bethanien in Frankfurt, Germany. “Thanks to the CE-marked adapter, we can now safely and effectively deliver bipolar ablation and deal with unreachable arrhythmias.”
