Merit Medical Announces Lectures and Panel Discussions On Interventional CRT During Heart Rhythm Society Meeting

Merit Medical Systems, Inc., a leading manufacturer and marketer of proprietary disposable devices used in cardiology, radiology, oncology and endoscopy, is announcing educational initiatives and product demonstrations at the upcoming Heart Rhythm 2018 meeting being held May 9-12 in Boston.

As part of its Excellence in EP Access and Lead Management initiative, Merit will sponsor an expert panel discussion at the Heart Rhythm 2018 meeting that will focus on adapting interventional tools and techniques for overcoming difficult anatomy during LV lead placement. The event, “Interventional CRT Implant Techniques,” will be held Thursday, May 10, 3:15-4:15 PM, in Rhythm Theater #2, and will feature a distinguished panel of experts:
● Kenneth A. Ellenbogen, MD, (Moderator), Medical College of Virginia/VCU School of Medicine.
● Seth Worley, MD, Director, Interventional Implant Program MedStar Heart & Vascular Institute’s Cardiac Electrophysiology Program Washington, DC
● Pugazhendhi Vijayaraman, MD, Cardiologist, Cardiac Electrophysiologist, Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania
● Matthew McKillop, MD, FACC, FHRS, Assistant Professor, University of Florida Division of Cardiovascular Medicine

“Using interventional approaches for LV lead placement solves many of the problems electrophysiology practitioners might face, such as tortuous vessels and
difficulty in locating and broaching the CS ostium,” said Dr. Worley. “The educational initiatives supported by Merit, both at this meeting and through its ongoing ThinkInterventionalCRT education program, are an opportunity for clinicians to learn techniques for easier and more accurate lead placement.”

Attendees to Heart Rhythm 2018 can gain further insights on interventional CRT (iCRT) tools, techniques and practices during booth lectures and training demonstrations held during the meeting:
● Thursday, May 10, 12:45-1:15PM: “LV Lead Delivery: Providing Options with a Simplified Approach” with Seth Worley, MD.

● Friday, May 12, 9:30-10:30 AM; and 3:00-4:30 PM: Meet the Experts and Hands-on Training with Seth Worley, MD, and Matthew McKillop, MD

Throughout Heart Rhythm 2018, attendees are invited to visit the Merit booth (#1062) for hands-on demonstrations of the company’s electrophysiology (EP) products and to learn about important design changes to products in its transseptal portfolio, including the HeartSpan® Fixed Curve Transseptal Sheath (now available in new ML1 and ML0 shapes), the HeartSpan® Transseptal Needle and the second generation HeartSpan® Steerable Sheath Introducer. Recently added features to the HeartSpan Family, such as new curve shapes and orientation indicator, are a direct result of feedback and guidance from physicians and are intended to provide clinicians with a robust set of tools for enhanced clinical performance.
