Company Donates Equipment for Youth Heart Screenings Parent Heart Watch (PHW), the national voice protecting youth from sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), has partnered with Mortara Instrument to provide electrocardiography equipment for youth heart screenings conducted by PHW members across the country. The announcement coincides with October's Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month. One young athlete dies every three days from sudden cardiac arrest in the U.S. Early detection through cardiac screenings with electrocardiograms (ECGs) is a primary prevention strategy that may help eliminate sudden cardiac arrest in youth. "Recently, 17-year-old Steven went to a free screening through Heart Screen New York and found out he had an underlying heart condition that may have cost him his life," said PHW Executive Director Michele Snyder. "With the support of Mortara, PHW member organizations are able to provide these screening opportunities at no cost and ultimately save lives." Since starting this program in March 2013, Mortara electrocardiography equipment has been used to screen over 3,000 youths.
