Allina Health EMS Appoints Dr. Andrew Stevens as Associate Medical Director
ST. PAUL, MINN. (June 5, 2015)—Brian LaCroix, chief executive officer of Allina Health EMS, today announced the appointment of Andrew Stevens, MD, as associate medical director.
“We’re very pleased to have Dr. Stevens join our senior leadership team and guide our clinicians in their pursuit of clinical and operational excellence, as well as research,” LaCroix said.
Stevens currently serves as deputy medical director for Indianapolis EMS, the Indianapolis Fire Department and Wayne Township Fire Department. He is an assistant professor of clinical emergency medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine, Department of Emergency Medicine, Division of Out-of-Hospital Care. He also serves as acting medical director of the paramedic education program at Indiana University, as deputy medical director for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police S.W.A.T. Team, and as medical director of the Mazda Road to Indy Racing Series.
“Allina Health EMS has a national reputation for providing top-notch clinical care, as well as for caring about the communities it serves,” Stevens said. “Those beliefs align strongly with my own, and I’m proud to be joining such a committed team of leaders and clinicians alike.”
Coming to Allina Health will be a homecoming for Stevens, who grew up in Minnesota. After earning his B.S. in biology from the University of Minnesota, he received his medical degree from Creighton University and completed his residency training in emergency medicine and fellowship training in out-of-hospital care at the Indiana University School of Medicine.
His accomplishments include serving as principal investigator for a research project using community paramedics to treat pediatric asthma patients. He also led a Health and Human Services Emergency Medical Services for Children grant at the Indiana University School of Medicine.
“Dr. Stevens’ clinical leadership comes at an exciting time for Allina Health EMS,” said Charles Lick, MD, medical director at Allina Health EMS, who will work in partnership with Stevens. “As we work to advance our vision, Dr. Stevens’ strengths and understanding of our focus will help us advance our clinical care and further strengthen our relationships with our communities.”
Stevens will be relocating to the Twin Cities area and is expected to begin his new role with Allina Health EMS in September.
