Ill. Officer Involved in Crash While Responding to Emergency

July 23--An Oak Brook police squad was involved in a traffic accident Tuesday evening while responding to an emergency call.

The crash occurred about 7:15 p.m. at Meyers Road and 31st Street and involved a passenger vehicle. Police said the officer was traveling south on Meyers responding to a medical emergency call on the 100 block of Livery Circle. Witnesses told police the lights and sirens were activated.

"From what I can tell, everything was taken care of," said officer Garrett Church, regarding the medical emergency.

The passenger vehicle was traveling east on 31st Street and entered the intersection, striking the squad car on the passenger side.

The Oak Brook officer was taken to the hospital, but police said injuries were not life-threatening.

The driver of the passenger car, Suk Szeto, 30, of Chicago, was cited for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
