8 ambulances sent in 90 minutes to 2 Naperville-area traffic crashes
July 12--The Naperville Fire Department late Monday afternoon dispatched eight ambulances in a 90-minute period, following two serious traffic crashes, a fire official confirmed.
Officials did not have immediate information on the nature of the injuries or the number of people affected.
Fire Bureau Chief Amy Scheller said four ambulances were sent about 4:10 p.m. to Book Road near 83rd Street, and about 5:34 p.m. to the intersection of North Aurora Road and Enterprise Court on the city's far northwest side.
Scheller said she could only confirm the fire department's involvement in both emergencies. She referred further questions to the DuPage County Sheriff's Office, which is investigating the Book Road crash; and Naperville police, who have jurisdiction over North Aurora Road and Enterprise Court.
Book Road as of 6 p.m. remained closed to traffic between 75th Street on the north and 83rd Street to the south. The road, which goes through the Springbrook Valley Forest Preserve, is a major arterial street in the Naperville area, and the crash created considerable traffic congestion on 75th and 87th streets and Plainfield-Naperville Road and Route 59.
Traffic also was snarled in the North Aurora Road-Enterprise Court area, near the Naperville-Aurora border.
Telephone messages left with the DuPage County Sheriff's Office and Naperville police were not immediately returned.
Check back for further developments.
