New York ALS service has grown to serve more than one million residents.

Mobile Life Support Services Celebrates 40 Years

NEW WINDSOR, NY—Mobile Life Support announced June 21, 2021, that it has marked four decades of providing on-scene emergency healthcare to its service area.

Founders Rick and Gayle Metzger opened Mobile Life Support Services Inc. for business in 1981 with just 4 employees and 2 very used ambulances. The Metzgers were on call 24/7, answering phones, responding to emergencies, providing care, managing finances, maintaining ambulances and replenishing supplies. Gayle Metzger recalls keeping her uniform at the foot of the bed so she could quickly respond to calls from home in the middle of night.

Mobile Life Support Services has since grown to employ hundreds of EMS professionals with 73 response vehicles and 24 stations, including in-house Education, Quality Improvement, Dispatch and Billing departments.

In addition to being the designated 9-1-1 EMS agency for Newburgh, Middletown, Kingston, and Poughkeepsie, as well as a dozen other municipalities, Mobile Life Support Services provides paramedic intercepts for many volunteer BLS agencies and supplies emergent and non-emergent ambulance transfers for area hospitals and healthcare facilities.

The company’s co-founder, the late Fredrick “Rick” Metzger, instilled a commitment to creating the best possible patient experience and outcome in the company’s infancy. “Rick was not only the father of this company, he was very much a father figure and leader for all of us that we admired and respected,” said Scott Woebse, Mobile Life Support president and CEO. “There is still a sense of pride in ‘doing it right’ as Rick would have wanted us to. I think he’d be very proud of us all.”
