Tiger BioSciences Shares Newly Published Evidence on Multi-Layer Placental Allografts

A November 28, 2025 press release highlights a newly published study from Tiger BioSciences  that reports structural and biochemical differences among two-, three-, and four-layer placental-derived allografts, with potential implications for wound healing and regenerative medicine. The work, reported in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences, emphasizes that preserving native architecture influences extracellular matrix (ECM) content and growth factor retention.1

Key Findings

The company shared that the comparative analysis assessed three allograft configurations: a two-layer amnion graft, a full-thickness placental membrane (amnion + intermediate layer + chorion), and a four-layer construct combining full-thickness tissue and an additional amnion layer.1

All three grafts retained core characteristics of the native placental membrane. The four-layer allograft also showed roughly twice the collagen content compared with the two- and three-layer versions.1 The analysis further revealed elevated levels of other ECM components, including elastin, proteoglycans, and hyaluronic acid, in the three- and four-layer constructs compared with the two-layer graft.1 Key proteins and growth factors crucial for wound healing were detected in all graft types, Tiger BioSciences said. The three- and four-layer allografts retained higher amounts of these biologically active molecules than the two-layer configuration.1

“These findings highlight the critical role of placental allograft composition,” said Garrett Grinsfelder, President of Tiger Wound Care. “This study shows that each layer of preserved placental tissue is rich in extracellular matrix (ECM), collagens, and key native proteins.”1
