FAAC, Inc.: MILO Response

The middle of an assault is not a good place for on-the-job training. Unfortunately for EMTs and other healthcare professionals there was no viable method for teaching safety and risk mitigation until FAAC unveiled its intensified situational training simulator.

MILO Response creates a new category of EMS training—one that immerses trainees into stressful, rapidly evolving situations and forces them to make quick decisions under pressure in a chaotic environment just as they would in real-life. Trainees interact with high-definition video scenarios on a life-sized screen that are professionally developed to meet stated training outcomes, which include:

  • Observation/situational awareness/scene assessment and safety/SOPs
  • Medical assessment/differential diagnosis/RACE, DECON, CBRNE
  • Conflict, emotional and ethical response management
  • Strategic positioning/safety awareness/team coordination

The power of MILO Response as a training tool is two-fold. Lifelike training scenarios were developed from real-life situations. Trainees are immersed in the situations they are likely to face in the field. Based on a student’s actions or inactions, the training scenario branches accordingly and provides the outcome as dictated by his or her response. Also, each trainee exercise can be replayed for an after-action review. Instructors can play back the exercise with the trainee or an entire class, critiquing and remediating as necessary. Scenarios can be run as often as desired so trainees can practice different strategies and tactics to determine what works best for each situation.

For more than 30 years FAAC has provided systems engineering and software products to the U.S. government and private industry. They were the first to develop an interactive, reconfigurable truck driving simulator for commercial training. The simulator combines a high degree of realism with the ability to create various scenarios from the Instructor Operator Station. The design flexibility of this unit provides a cost effective and safe method for driver training and testing.

Horton Emergency Vehicles Co.: Horton Connect

Horton Connect is a package built to leverage the advanced system capabilities of Intelliplex i4G, providing complete ambulance connectivity. Utilizing the first-ever, emergency vehicle-specific app, Horton Connect represents the future of ambulance operations and proactive preventative maintenance.

Starting with the installation of an on-board Wi-Fi module, Horton Connect establishes wireless communication with the ambulance via mobile app. The mobile app, free for download on any Apple or Android device, only allows vehicle access through administrator permission. Horton Connect’s Wi-Fi module also acts as a secure wireless hotspot and will not interrupt cellular data. Made for use in business-critical installations (such as law enforcement and high security surveillance), the Wi-Fi module enhances internet availability and ensures maximum uptime.

Through use of the app, EMS providers are able to control various ambulance functions including, but not limited to lock/unlock; module connect/disconnect; master emergency on/off; iInterior lights on/off; exterior lights on/off; oxygen on/off; and climate control.

Weekly, or upon request, the mobile app also sends ambulance diagnostic information to a secure, cloud-based Command Center. This information is then referenced with a customer-specific preventative maintenance schedule. The schedule is completely customizable, with tracking by hours, days or miles. If necessary, the Command Center will send a maintenance reminder or alert message to several recipients including the in-unit i4G console screen, designated users’ apps and assigned email accounts.

Horton Connect revolutionizes emergency controls, establishing two-way communication between user and ambulance. With the mobile app, EMS providers are empowered to direct their ambulance remotely, removing proximity barriers and improving performance ability.
If Horton vehicles were known for only one thing, it would be quality. From the engineering to the fit and finish of the body and interiors, Horton quality is unsurpassed. The quality of Horton translates to more than a great environment to work in and a vehicle you can depend on. That quality translates to safety. But Horton is known for much more than just quality. Horton also brings you more technological innovations than anyone in the industry.

Vitalboards: Vitalboards

Vitalboards is a lifesaving platform that allows homeowners to list vital health information that can assist first responders in the effort of saving lives, while representing a modernized approach to an age-old challenge of obtaining vital health information from the patient.

The program has two components. The first is a beautifully designed, 8-1/2” x 11” full color magnetic memo board with pen and clip, which mounts to the refrigerator door. People love to use these as a quick communication tool, a reminder for an important event that week, or simply to jot down some notes. Vitalboards also includes areas for each homeowner to list vital health information, such as allergies, current medications, medical conditions and more. An EMS info sticker is included, which is affixed on or near the front door, and alerts first responders to the location of the Vitalboard.

The program also includes Vital ICE, the customized In Case of Emergency app for iPhone/iPad/Android users. Vital ICE is a mobile platform for users to store their vital health information while on the go. This feature-rich app has much more to offer than any other ICE app on the market today, even native health apps. Through its back office Web access, EMS, fire and other first responders can be provisioned to send push notifications to alert citizens when needed. VitalICE also allows EMS to customize the interface with a link to their site (and/or PayPal if they accept donations) and also features a back office where they can send push notifications.

Vitalboards can be funded entirely by the city or municipality, or can be funded in part or whole by a local business in a co-branded effort.
