The White Sock Campaign for PAD Awareness
For September’s Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) Awareness Month, Medtronic and the Save a Leg, Save a Life Foundation (SALSAL) have launched a nationwide White Sock Campaign to help get “Docs in Socks” to educate about this common yet serious condition that can result in heart attack, stroke, amputation, and early death if left untreated.
This month, physicians across the United States are raising awareness of PAD and early detection with one simple tool: a white sock. The white sock symbolizes the many patients with late-stage PAD who received an amputation due to delayed treatment. To help spread this message, physicians are encouraged to wear one white sock on leg, take a picture and post it on their personal and institutional social media channels with the hashtag #DocsInSocks.
As part of the campaign, physicians are also partnering with other clinicians involved in the PAD care pathway to help ensure high-risk patients receive proper diagnosis and care. Through this new collaborative approach, physicians are working together with a shared goal to assess disease progression and improve referral patterns for those with suspected PAD.
