The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released the public inspection version of the Calendar Year (CY) 2027 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) proposed rule. This proposed rule outlines proposed payment policies and reimbursement updates for physicians and other clinicians participating in the Medicare program.1
These updates, if finalized, would take effect January 1, 2027. The proposed rule includes updates to physician payment, quality reporting programs, and other Medicare Part B policies. CMS will accept public comments on the proposed rule through September 14, before issuing a final rule later this year.1
Although CMS has not yet finalized any of the proposed changes, the annual Physician Fee Schedule is closely watched by wound care clinicians and other stakeholders because it can affect reimbursement, coding, quality reporting requirements, and payment policies for services commonly provided to Medicare beneficiaries. Since the 2026 Final Rules brought significant change for the wound care community, especially for skin subsitutes, stakeholders are carefully monitoring the impact of the CY 2027 proposals.
