Were you aware of the Shock Index (SI) as a valuable tool for evaluating the potential of shock in a trauma patient, obtained by simply dividing the patient’s heart rate by their systolic blood pressure (SI=HR/SBP) and then comparing it to below values to accurately predict shock? The range of SI values • ≤0.6, no shock • ≥0.6 to ≤1.0, mild shock • ≥1.0 to ≤1.4, moderate shock • ≥1.4, severe shock.
