The 2012 Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) concluded with, among other things, the introduction of the new Academy president and vice president and several new board members.
Daniel M. Siegel, MD, FAAD, replaced Dr. Ronald Moy as the AAD President. Dr. Siegel is a clinical professor of dermatology and director of the procedural dermatology fellowship at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn. He has co-authored four textbooks and more than 100 scientific publications. His term as AAD President will last one year.
Zoe D. Draelos, MD, FAAD assumed the position of AAD Vice President at the conclusion of the 2012 Annual Meeting. Dr. Draelos is a consulting professor of dermatology at Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, NC, and the editor-in-chief of Cosmetic Dermatology. She has written eight dermatology textbooks, 32 book chapters and more than 300 scientific articles. Dr. Draelos’ term as AAD Vice-President will also last one year.
Four new members of the Board of Directors of the AAD also began their terms at the end of the 2012 Annual Meeting. Stephen H. Mandy, MD, FAAD, is a volunteer clinical professor of dermatology at the University of Miami School of Medicine, a past president of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery and a founding member and past president of the Florida Society of Dermatologic Surgeons. Jack S. Resneck Jr., MD, FAAD, is an associate professor and vice-chair of dermatology at University of California, San Francisco. Kathryn Schwarzenberger, MD, FAAD, is a professor of medicine (dermatology) at University of Vermont College of Medicine in Burlington, VT. Abel Torres, MD, JD, FAAD, is professor and chairman of dermatology and associate professor of public health at Loma Linda University School of Medicine in Loma Linda, CA.
Each of the newly elected members of the Board of Directors will serve 4-year terms.
