Bibliometric Analysis Highlights Growing Role of Artificial Intelligence in Psoriasis Care
Artificial intelligence and intelligent diagnostic technologies are poised to play an increasingly important role in psoriasis management, according to a bibliometric analysis examining 2 decades of research on smart diagnosis and treatment.
Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease driven by genetic, immune, and environmental interactions. The authors note that the disease is characterized by “the aberrant activation of the Th17/IL-23 pathway,” resulting in uncontrolled keratinocyte proliferation and systemic inflammation. Globally, psoriasis affects approximately 1% to 3% of the population and is associated with substantial clinical burden, including moderate-to-severe pruritus, nail disease, psoriatic arthritis, and psychosocial impairment.
To evaluate research trends in intelligent psoriasis care, investigators analyzed publications indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection between January 1, 2005, and December 31, 2025. Using VOSviewer and CiteSpace software, they examined co-cited literature, keyword networks, international collaboration, and evolving research themes.
The analysis identified growing interest in integrating advanced computational approaches into psoriasis diagnosis and management. According to the authors, “intelligent image recognition” and “multimodal data fusion” represent key technologies supporting the development of intelligent diagnostic and therapeutic systems.
The review suggests that combining imaging with multiple sources of clinical data may improve diagnostic precision while facilitating more personalized treatment strategies. The authors propose that these technologies may also contribute to precision medicine, reduce health care costs, and improve long-term disease management.
Beyond psoriasis, the investigators suggest that intelligent diagnostic platforms could be extended to other inflammatory skin diseases. They note that the technology “can be further expanded to atopic dermatitis, eczema, etc., to further improve the quality of life of patients,” potentially establishing “a new model of dermatology diagnosis and treatment.”
