New Medications Provide Options for Patients With MASLD/MASH

Until recently, patients with metabolic-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and metabolic-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) depended primarily on lifestyle changes such as diet, exercise, and abstinence from alcohol, to prevent their disease from progressing.

Now, Dr A. Sidney Barritt IV explains, the advent of resmetirom, a thyroid hormone receptor beta (THR-β) agonist, and the GLP-1 receptor agonists, hepatologists have two medical therapies that help improve metabolic function and reduce weight. But diet and exercise are still important elements in the treatment of MASLD and MASH.
