Devices I Can’t Live Without and What I’m Excited About in 2026

Omar Ibrahimi
Omar A. Ibrahimi, MD, PhD
Medical Director, Connecticut Skin Institute

In this expert Q&A, Dr Ibrahimi offers insight into energy-based technologies from trusted lasers for resurfacing and vascular conditions to emerging advancements like focal point technology, sharing what sets these tools apart clinically and how they may transform patient care in 2026. He also provides practical guidance for clinicians on critically evaluating new devices and integrating them into practice.

Which energy-based or device technologies have become indispensable in your practice, and what makes them stand out clinically?

Dr Ibrahimi: Workhorse devices in my practice include non-ablative fractional technologies. Devices such as the LaseMD Ultra, AVAVA, and Fraxel Dual are very popular for resurfacing the skin and can improve a number of clinical conditions, such as photodamage and acne scars. Vascular lasers like the DermaV and VBeam are also highly utilized in my practice to treat birthmarks and rosacea.

What emerging devices or innovations are you most excited about heading into 2026, and how might they change patient care?

Dr Ibrahimi: I am most excited about focal point technology. The ability to drive fractional energy deeper into skin holds a lot of potential for skin rejuvenation.

How should clinicians evaluate and integrate new devices into practice while balancing efficacy, safety, and return on investment?

Dr Ibrahimi: Clinicians should be skeptical of claims many laser and device companies make. No one device will achieve everything a clinician needs. Seeing clinical studies by trusted laser dermatologic surgeons is far more important than the marketing buzz that is generated by social media influencers.
