Patient Case:

A 9-year-old girl was diagnosed in April 2024 with a mass centered within the right thalamus. Resection was not possible and a biopsy was performed. The diagnosis came back as pilocytic astrocytoma (WHO Grade I) BRAF V600E mutant.

The patient was started on dabrafenib in combination with trametinib. She had significant side effects for the first 3 months, especially with pyrexia syndrome, which could not be well-controlled despite anti-pyretics, steroids, and several dose reductions.

The patient and her family do not want to continue the drug combination and are inquiring about other potential treatment options.
