CAPTIVATE Trial: Venetoclax and Ibrutinib as First-Line Therapy for CLL

At the 2018 Lymphoma & Myeloma congress held in New York, Richard R. Furman, MD, Director CLL Research Center, Weill Cornell Medicine, New York, New York, spoke to Oncology Learning Network about the CAPTIVATE trial of ibrutinib and venetoclax as a first-line treatment for patients with CLL.

Transcript

The CAPTIVATE trial is interesting in the sense that it tries to capitalize on using another novel agent, namely ibrutinib, to reduce the risk of tumor lysis and simultaneously take advantage of synergy between venetoclax and ibrutinib.

This combination together enables physicians to treat patients completely as outpatients with oral therapy, and because of the synergy between these two agents, really able to generate very, very deep remissions with really what might be a fixed duration of therapy.

The CAPTIVATE trial really affords a great opportunity to test what could truly be purely outpatient therapy that would be very safe and very effective for patients.
